Jack Foley 1941 - 2012

Jack & Colleen FoleyJack Foley, born in Brooklyn, New York to John Foley, (Roscommon, Ireland) and Christina Loughnane Foley, (Galway, Ireland) passed away at home on Sept. 1st surrounded by his wife Colleen and his three children, Brendan Loughnane, Kathleen Boyle, and Kara Mia.

He served in the US Coast Guard and later worked as a NYC Fireman for 22 years (always cooking at the fire house) and was a restaurateur as well.

He, his wife and 2 partners opened and operated The Landing Café, a restaurant next to the Staten Island Ferry, in New York City. He also earned his Bachelors of Art at CUNY.

After retiring from the fire dept and selling The Landing, they packed up the kids and moved to the North Country of New Hampshire.

Jack built a home in Sugar Hill, NH and returned to his passion for food by working in many local restaurants including the Village House, The Beal House and the Grand Depot. In 1999, Jack, his family and David and Susan Brown and family opened the Cold Mountain Café in Bethlehem.

Jack, proud of his Irish culture, had a strong passion for traditional music and all things Irish. He was a painter, a sculptor an amazing chef and always a charming host. His love for his family and friends was infinite.

His brothers Michael and Gerard and his sister Geraldine and their families all survive him, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins here and in Ireland.

A send off for Jack was held on Saturday Sept 8th at 2:00 pm on the Dow in Franconia.
